On World Tourism Day, short film on Moorish Mosque released
Jalandhar Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal on Friday released a documentary and pictorial brochure titled “Moorish Mosque”.
It portrays the architectural marvel and a brief background of the heritage building of Kapurthala. The event was held to mark the World Tourism Day.
The documentary and pictorial brochure is curated by renowned author and heritage promoter Harpreet Sandhu. Through his creative lens, he has captured the beauty and legacy of the monument.
The documentary aims to spread awareness among the people of Punjab, especially the younger generation, about the importance of preserving cultural landmarks that form the backbone of the region’s identity. This film highlights heritage monument Moorish Mosque, which is inspired by Grand Mosque of Marrakesh, commissioned by Maharaja Jagatjit Singh and stands as an enduring testament to Punjab’s historical ties with global culture and architectural excellence.
Sabharwal, after having the preview of the documentary, acknowledged the efforts of Sandhu for his dedication in compiling the pictorial art and showcasing the grandeur of this heritage site. The Commissioner said, “The pictorial brochure is not just a visual documentation but a reminder regarding depth of our heritage. This documentary film will serve as a valuable resource for historians, students and cultural enthusiasts.”
Sandhu said his passion for photography of heritage sites encouraged him to make the short film. He stated that this was an initiative towards highlighting this lesser known heritage location of Punjab tourism situated in Kapurthala and attracting visitors to have glimpse of the rich heritage of Punjab. The film has been dedicated to the World Tourism Day highlighting the theme “Tourism and Peace” raising awareness regarding importance of tourism within society, culture, economy and environment.
