One killed after scooter rams into truck on Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway
The complainant alleged that the truck was parked negligently in the middle of the flyover without any warning indicators
A road accident claimed the life of a man after his scooter rammed into a stationary truck on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway on Friday evening. The police registered a case against the unidentified truck driver in this connection.
According to the statement of Satnam Singh, a resident of Hansro village, which falls under the Sadar police station, Nawanshahr district, the deceased was identified as his brother-in-law, Himmat Kumar, a resident of Noormahal Road, Ravidaspura Colony, Phillaur.
Satnam stated that on the night of the incident, he was riding his motorcycle (Pulsar), following Himmat, who was travelling on his Activa, bearing registration number PB-37-J-5580. Around 8.10 pm, when they reached the flyover near Sampurna factory on the main highway connecting Jalandhar and Ludhiana, they encountered a truck bearing registration number UP-22-AT-4902 stationed on the bridge.
The complainant alleged that the truck was parked negligently in the middle of the flyover without any warning indicators, parking lights, reflectors or cautionary signs. Due to absence of proper signals and the sudden obstruction, Himmat’s scooter reportedly collided with the rear end of the truck.
The impact left Himmat critically injured, and he succumbed to his injuries soon thereafter. The accident also caused significant damage to the two-wheeler. The identity of the truck driver is yet to be ascertained.
