Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh joined the demonstration opposing the plant's construction inside the fodder market, stating it must not be allowed there. "Considering public health and pollution concerns, the plant should be relocated outside the village. The Municipal Corporation and government must reconsider this. If the government does not reverse its decision, a path of struggle will be adopted", he announced.
Pargat Singh said the Jamsher dairy complex is in a dire state. "The MC is yet to develop the complex and the nearby residents have been sufferers for the past over a decade. Earlier, public support stopped a solid waste management plant there. Now, the government is again preparing to compromise on people's health", he said.
"If the biogas plant is built in the fodder market, it will render the space unusable, leaving farmers without storage for fodder. The MC and government should conduct a study before establishing the plant. It should only be installed in the dairy complex after complying with all regulations", he warned that he stands with Jamsher village people.
During the protest, Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli also warned that he has opposed the CNG plant construction in Bhogpur for two years. He has not allowed the project to come up as it poses a deadly hazard and major health risks. He too offered support to those opposing the Jamsher plant.
Kulwinder Singh, a farmer leader, issued an ultimatum to the MC and government, "If the government does not withdraw the decision, we will demolish the structure on January 23. A committee will soon be formed to mobilise surrounding residents. The farmer organisation and villagers will remain united and not hesitate to make any sacrifice."
