Parking dispute turns ugly as policeman ‘assaults’ youngster in Jalandhar
In an incident at Jalandhar Heights I on the 66ft road, a minor parking dispute escalated when a police officer (SHO, Bhogpur), who lives in the same society, allegedly slapped a youngster and pointed his service revolver at him on Friday night. The victim, identified as Anmol Singh, had come to visit a friend after Holi celebrations when the altercation occurred.
According to information, Anmol and his friends were standing near the parking area when the cop, allegedly in an inebriated state, began misbehaving and hurling abuses at them. When youngsters responded, the situation intensified and the SHO allegedly slapped Anmol.
Anmol’s father Paru Singh claimed that the SHO not only thrashed his son, but also pointed his service revolver at him. He further alleged that the SHO’s gunman held Anmol at gunpoint and deleted all videos of the incident from his iPhone. Paru Singh said Anmol sustained injuries, including a fractured finger, and was currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. “We have filed a formal complaint in this regard at the Jalandhar Heights police post and our statements have been recorded,” he said.
Meanwhile, Babandeep Singh, ACP, Jalandhar Cantt, said complaints had been filed by both the parties. While Anmol accused the SHO of assault, the policeman claimed that the youngster misbehaved with him and even raised his hand, the ACP said. “We are currently verifying claims and requested the society management to provide us the CCTV footage of the area,” he said. Regarding the alleged use of the service revolver, the ACP said appropriate action based on the evidence obtained from the CCTV footage would be taken against the SHO.
