The festival of Lohri was celebrated across Phagwara with enthusiasm, cultural spirit, and a strong sense of social commitment, with multiple events highlighting respect for daughters, community togetherness, and collective well-being.
Former Union Minister Som Parkash and former Rajya Sabha Member Anita Som Parkash celebrated Lohri dedicated to 1,100 new-born girls, emphasising dignity, empowerment and equality for daughters in Onkar Nagar Phagwara on Sunday.
They conveyed that honouring girls through Lohri celebrations not only strengthens family happiness but also reinforces progressive social values and the importance of nurturing a positive mind-set toward the girl child.
Alongside this initiative, a grand Lohri celebration was organised at Talab Arorian Phagwara, where residents gathered in large numbers to participate in traditional festivities marked by music, cultural performances, and festive warmth. Community leaders and social organisations joined the occasion, distributing gifts and toys to young girls to make the celebration more meaningful. Speakers at the event highlighted that festivals become truly special when they are associated with community care, social awareness, and inclusion.
Marking the beginning of the New Year with spiritual devotion, a special recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib was held at Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where prayers were offered for peace, health, and the well-being of all. Senior Medical Officer Dr Simardeep Kaur extended New Year greetings and expressed hope for a healthier society.
She informed that the Punjab Government will launch the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme from January 16, under which residents will be able to avail free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh annually in both government and empanelled private hospitals by registering through Aadhaar and Voter ID.
She also encouraged the medical and paramedical staff to continue performing their duties with dedication and integrity.
