A pall of gloom descended on Bhularai village when bodies of Rajni Bala (30) and her daughter Navnoor (18 months) were brought to the village on Saturday morning.

The woman and her daughter were killed during the train tragedy in Amritsar on Friday night. Gagandeep who is working as a carpenter in Phagwara told the correspondent that his wife Rajni went to her parental house near the accident site on Thursday. They had decided to celebrate their sixth marriage anniversary there on Sunday. He was supposed to go to Amritsar on Saturday, but destiny had something else in store for them.

An uncle of deceased Rajni, Hari Singh who came with the bodies said around 10 family members went to attend Dasehra celebrations and as soon as the effigy of Ravana was set on fire, Rajni along with her daughter went away from the site. They were at a distance of around 15 feet from the railway lines.

Meanwhile, a body (hit by the train) hit them and they both sustained critical injuries in the stampede-like situation.

They both were taken to Amritsar hospital but could not be saved. Hari singh said his two daughters Sapna and Suman too sustained injuries in stampede. They have been admitted to Amritsar hospital.
