Phillaur, April 19
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan today kick-started distribution of 44 residential plots to poor families in Jajjan Kalan village by symbolically handing over registration papers to five beneficiaries.
The land has been donated by philanthropist sarpanch Amreek Singh Sandhu. The Speaker appreciated his move for taking up this noble cause by donating his land measuring about 132 marla. “This initiative will enable these 44 landless families realise their dream of having own homes with each family getting a plot measuring three marlas. This move would go a long way in encouraging others for contributing in the welfare of underprivileged sections of the society,” said Sandhwan.
He also appealed to NRIs and NGOs involved in philanthropic activities to join hands with the state government in making Punjab a vibrant state. The Speaker also assured all support from the state government to village panchayat in this humane cause.
Speaking on the occasion, AAP leader Principal Prem Kumar said the village panchayat would further carry forward this initiative by providing funds worth Rs. 1.5 lakh to each family from the state government under its housing scheme so that these families could build their homes at this allotted land.
Meanwhile, the Speaker along with sarpanch and other dignitaries handed over registration papers to five beneficiaries — Baljinder Kaur, Kulwinder Kaur, Sawitri, Charanjit Kaur and Kulwinder Kaur. A delegation of village panchayat handed over a memorandum to the Speaker on which Sandhwan assured to consider all their genuine demands at the earliest.
