Police arrest woman, book undertrial prisoner in separate drug cases

In the first incident, police arrested Lakhwinder Kaur, a resident of Mohalla Ucha Dhora under City Kapurthala police station, after recovering 140 loose intoxicant tablets from her possession during a patrol near Dhakka Colony.
The police have registered a case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act against the accused on the charges of illegal possession of narcotic and psychotropic substances. According to the police, the woman allegedly tried to throw a transparent packet containing the tablets on the roadside after noticing the police vehicle but was apprehended with the help of a woman police employee.
In another case, police registered a case after 29.40 grams of narcotic substance was recovered from an undertrial prisoner lodged in Central Jail Kapurthala.
On a complaint lodged by Vikram Singh, Assistant Superintendent of Central Jail Kapurthala, the police have registered a case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Section 42 of the Prison Act against Daljit Singh, a resident of village Bhode under Bilga police station.
Police said the accused was searched by jail guards after returning to the jail following a court hearing on March 5, during which a light yellow coloured narcotic substance weighing 29.40 grams wrapped in tape inside a wax packet was recovered from a concealed part of his body.
