Over 9,000 women get Rs 3.24 cr under maternity benefit scheme

HOSHIARPUR: In order to provide benefit to women during child birth, an amount of Rs 3.24 cr has been provided to 9,731 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

In order to provide benefit to women during child birth, an amount of Rs 3.24 cr has been provided to 9,731 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.

Under this scheme, an amount of Rs 5,000 is provided in three installments, to women who have been pregnant for the first time after January 1, 2017.

Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Isha Kalia said the first installment of Rs 1,000 was given to a pregnant woman after the registration through an anganwadi worker and making of the Mother Child Protection card (MCP). The second installment of Rs 2,000 is given after the medical check-up of 6 month pregnant woman and the third installment of Rs 2,000 is given after the first immunization of the child after birth.

The District Program Officer Dr Kuldeep Singh said some conditions have been laid down for availing the benefits of this scheme. As per the conditions, a beneficiary woman must have some documents such as Aadhaar card, a bank account in her name and the MCP Card issued by the Health Department. He further said any woman who worked in the Central or State Government or in the semi-government sector could not be given benefit of this scheme.

He further said to get more information regarding this scheme, the nearest anganwadi workers of the city or village can be contacted on the website of Women and Child Development Department.
