Progressive Writers’ Association holds literary and cultural event

Progressive Writers’ Association Unit Mahilpur in collaboration with Gram Panchayat, DSS Welfare Club Chandeli and Nikkian Karumbalan Prakashan Mahilpur recently organised a book exhibition, poet’s court and children’s cultural programme under the leadership of President Baljinder Mann and General Secretary Jeevan Chandeli.

In which Progressive Writers’ Association Punjab President Prof Surjit Judge and District President Prof Baldev Singh Balli and General Secretary Principal Navtej Garhdiwala participated with great enthusiasm.

Welcoming everyone, Sarpanch Kamal said that it is the effort of the Gram Panchayat and Youth Club that children should be aware of their rich heritage by reading good books. To fulfill this objective, literary, sports and cultural activities are being organised in the village. He further said that a great effort has been made by giving valuable, interesting and colourful books to children at just Rs 50 each during the book exhibition organised by Nikkian Karumbalan Prakashan.

Regarding the healthy child arts that are disappearing from the society, Principal Navtej Garhdiwala and litterateur Baljinder Mann said that it is the main responsibility of parents and teachers to provide books to children in addition to the syllabus so that their arts can develop. In the Kavi Darbar presented on this occasion, about two dozen poets from near and far added colour with their poems. Among them, singers Neel Kamal, Baljit Kaur Jhutti and K Meet worked the magic of their melodious voices. The poets included Dev Raj Dadar, Harminder Sahil, Paramjit Katib, Principal Sarabjit Singh, Preet Neetpur, Bahadur Singh Kamal, Sukhman Singh, Balwinder Baria, Harbhajan Singh, Ranjit Possi etc addressed the issues of poets.

Among the child artists of the villages of Mahilpur block, Gursimran created the peak of child singing by singing Mirja. Jasmine Kaur of Bharata Ganeshpur made the audience cry by presenting a long poem about the grief of a girl. Child artists Prabhjot, Loveleen, Gurjot Singh, Sahiba, Rajni and workers added colour with their unique performances. Apart from the guests, the students who showed excellent performance were honoured with mementoes and sets of books.
