The Satnampura police on Friday unearthed an alleged prostitution racket operating out of the Law Gate area on Mehru Road. Four women were arrested during the raid and a case has been registered against them. Two male suspects, believed to be clients, managed to flee the scene and are at large.
Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs that indicated certain women were running a flesh trade operation near paying guest (PG) accommodations in the Mehru Road area. Acting on the tip-off, a Satnampura police team conducted a targeted raid on the identified premises and arrested four women. The accused have been identified as Hadijah Nante, Nakazibe Josephine, Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Patel Nagar, and Priya, a resident of Jalandhar. Officials said cash and other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession. The exact amount of cash seized has not been disclosed. Two young men reportedly escaped from the scene during the commotion. The authorities have launched an investigation to identify and track down the absconders.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the law and an investigation has been launched to ascertain the extent of the alleged network. Police officials said they were examining possible links to other operations and verifying the background of those arrested.
