A protest was held outside Quba Masjid in Khambra, Jalandhar, on Sunday evening against the Israeli and US attack on Iran and the 'martyrdom' of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The protest was organised late in the evening by social activist and leader Mazhar Alam, in which a large number of people from the area participated.
The protesters raised slogans against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, burnt their effigies and strongly condemned the Ayatollah's killing.
A special prayer was also offered on the martyrdom of the Iranian leader.
Addressing a gathering, Advocate Naeem Khan, the head of the Muslim Sangthan, Punjab, said this was an attack on humanity. Peace-loving countries should clear whether they are with with injustice and violence or with humanity and peace. Naeem said if Israel had discussed the issue of attacking Iran during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel, then the Prime Minister should have cancelled his visit immediately. He added that if the Prime Minister was not informed about the attack, then India had been used for a big deception. Advocate Naeem also demanded that the Centre clarify its position on this entire matter.
He said transparency in matters of foreign policy and international relations were necessary to protect the dignity and interests of the country. He condemned the attack on Iran and the targeting of religious leaders.
The protest ended peacefully. Finally, the people prayed for world peace, harmony and brotherhood and sought just intervention from the international community.
Sikander Sheikh, Sarfaraz Khan, Arif Khan, Nizamuddin and others were present on the occasion.
Advocate Naeem Khan, Mazhar Alam and other members of the Muslim community burned effigies of Netanyahu and Donald Trump outside Masjid-e-Quba Khambra.
