Jalandhar, June 27
Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari today met Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal and urged him to bring Balachaur on the railway map of the country.
Tewari brought to Goyal’s attention the fact that even after 72 years of Independence, an important town like Balachaur in Nawanshahr had not been connected with a rail line.
The MP told the minister that there were three ways by which Balachaur could be linked with a rail line.
He suggested that a rail link could be constructed between Garhshankar and Shri Anandpur Sahib, which had already been surveyed by the railways. Another way, he suggested, was to construct a rail link from Rahon to Ropar and the third way was by constructing a rail link from Rahon to Samrala which had also been surveyed by the railways.
Tewari said given the fact that Punjab was a border state, rail linkages were important not only for connecting people, but also in the larger cause of the strategic preparedness of the country. The MP said the minister assured him appropriate action at the earliest, so that Balachaur was brought on the railway map of the country. Tewari has listed it as one of his topmost priorities to connect Balachaur with a rail link. — TNS
