PSPCL detects 12 power violations cases during checking drive in Jalandhar
Rs 6.96 lakh loss assessed
In a checking drive aimed at tightening surveillance over power misuse and curbing electricity irregularities, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) detected 12 cases of power violations across the Jalandhar circle after inspecting as many as 1,337 electricity connections, officials said on Saturday.
Additionally, inspections led to an assessed loss of Rs 6.96 lakh due to theft and irregular use of electricity. The checking exercise was carried out on Friday across multiple divisions of the circle, including Jalandhar East, Jalandhar Cantt, Model Town, Jalandhar West and Phagwara, where teams conducted inspections at residential and commercial premises to identify cases of direct theft and unauthorised consumption of electricity.
Among the divisions, Phagwara reported the highest number of cases with electricity irregularities including two cases of power theft, two cases of unauthorised use of electricity, besides another instance of irregular consumption during the inspection of 202 connections. The division also recorded the highest financial impact with the assessed loss pegged at Rs 6.37 lakh.
In the Cantt division, officials inspected 401 electricity connections and detected three cases of theft, leading to an assessed loss of Rs 0.23 lakh.
The West division recorded two cases of electricity theft during the inspection of 112 connections with a total loss estimated at Rs 0.30 lakh.
Meanwhile, one case each was detected in the East and Model Town divisions. In the East division, officials inspected 400 connections and detected one theft case involving a loss of Rs 0.05 lakh, while in the Model Town division, 222 connections were checked, leading to the detection of one case with a loss of Rs 0.01 lakh.
The data further shows that seven cases involved direct theft of electricity accounting for the majority of the loss estimated at Rs 5.49 lakh. In addition, two cases of unauthorised use of electricity resulted in an assessed loss of Rs 1.30 lakh while other irregularities accounted for Rs 0.17 lakh.
Giving information about the drive, Harvinder Singh, Additional Superintending Engineer, Jalandhar Circle, said, “The operation wing of the power corporation carried out cross division checking on Friday to identify power theft cases, prevent revenue losses and ensure compliance with electricity regulations, particularly before the closing of financial year.”
