According to the family, Gurtek Singh was scheduled for night duty on August 9. However, in view of the Chief Minister’s visit to Kartarpur that day, his JE reportedly called him for duty in the morning instead. During the course of work, Gurtek suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

Gurtek was the only son of his parents and his sudden death has left the family devastated. His mother Varinder Kaur and 22-year-old sister Navneet Kaur were reportedly shattered on receiving the news.
