A young PSPCL employee from the Arfawala locality of Kapurthala was electrocuted on duty. The deceased has been identified as Gurtek Singh, who was posted with the PSPCL in Kartarpur.
The incident has plunged the family and residents of the locality into mourning.
Powercom Superintending Engineer (SE) SP Sondhi expressed grief over the loss and said the department stood by the bereaved family in this difficult hour. He further stated that an ex gratia of ₹25 lakh had been given to the family and that the insurance amount would also be released shortly.
According to the family, Gurtek Singh was scheduled for night duty on August 9. However, in view of the Chief Minister’s visit to Kartarpur that day, his JE reportedly called him for duty in the morning instead. During the course of work, Gurtek suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.
Gurtek was the only son of his parents and his sudden death has left the family devastated. His mother Varinder Kaur and 22-year-old sister Navneet Kaur were reportedly shattered on receiving the news.
