Review summary revision of voters’ list, DCs told

JALANDHAR: Commissioner of Jalandhar Division B Purushartha today asked the Deputy Commissioners of seven districts to embark a massive awareness campaign for making the maximum number of people aware about the process involved in addition and deletion of names in voters’ list.

Commissioner of Jalandhar Division B Purushartha today asked the Deputy Commissioners of seven districts to embark a massive awareness campaign for making the maximum number of people aware about the process involved in addition and deletion of names in voters’ list.

Presiding over a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners and representatives of political parties from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur to review the ongoing summary revision of voters’ lists, the Divisional Commissioner said the sole aim of the drive should be to ensure that every person was made aware of this significant process to strengthen democracy at the grass-root level and make the people an active partners in the democratic set up.

He said the ongoing intensive summary revision of electoral rolls, which would be completed by January 4, aimed at ensuring providing foolproof mother roll for the ensuring general elections of 2019. Purushartha said every effort must be made to ensure that every eligible voter was covered by January 4 when the final revision of the roll was completed.

The Divisional Commissioner asked the Deputy Commissioners to pull up their socks for ensuring that the voters’ lists from the districts in the Division were best in the country.

He said apart from holding the awareness camps in district, block and booth level, the officers must also ensure that BLOs also have regular meetings with the representatives of the political parties at the respective booths.

Purushartha also asked the political parties to appoint the Booth Level Agents (BLA) for further streamlining the democratic process.

The Divisional Commissioner also asked the Deputy Commissioners and the representatives of the political parties to encourage transgender and NRIs for enrolling themselves as voters.

He expressed hope that the voting percentage and voters’ list from all districts in the division were the best in the entire country.

Purushartha asked the Deputy Commissioners to make strenuous efforts in this direction and ensure that no stone was left unturned for it.
