Masked robbers struck at two houses in Singriwala village falling under the Model Town police station.
Around 20 robbers looted cash and gold ornaments worth lakhs from the two houses.
The robbers reached the village, located on the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar road, and entered the house of Satpal Singh around 1 am. They took family members of Satpal hostage and looted gold worth Rs 5 lakh.
They also snatched the gold earrings of women present in the house and fled the spot.
Satpal told the police that the number of masked robbers was over 20. Later, five of the robbers entered another resident Chetan’s house and took hostage all members of his family. They also took his tenants hostage and robbed about Rs 20,000 in cash and 60 gm of gold ornaments and fled the spot. Getting information around 2 am, DSP (City) Anil Kohli and SHO Gaurav Dhir reached the spot. Later, the police team called the dog squad on the spot.
The Model Town police have registered a case under Sections 395 and 458 against the unknown miscreants on the complaint of both families.
The SHO said the police reached the spot after getting the information. The police were investigating the case and would nab the robbers soon.
