Royal Club urges traffic lights at Gazigulla
Members of the Royal Club, representing residents of Ram Nagar and Gandhi Nagar localities, through its general secretary Suraj Birdi, have written to Mayor Vineet Dhir and Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, urging the immediate installation of traffic lights at Gazigulla near the Chandan Nagar Underpass.
The club has raised serious concerns about the growing chaos at this busy intersection, which they describe as highly accident-prone due to unregulated traffic movement.
In the letter, Birdi highlighted the difficulties faced by both pedestrians and motorists in navigating the intersection where the absence of traffic signals has led to frequent near-misses and accidents.
He pointed out that the unplanned and unchecked traffic movement has made it increasingly dangerous for the public, especially elderly citizens and schoolchildren, to cross the road safely.
The issue had previously been brought to the attention of the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), but no action was taken, the letter stated. Given the worsening situation, the club has now directly appealed to the city’s top officials, requesting urgent intervention to prevent potential tragedies.
Apart from the installation of traffic lights, Birdi also urged the authorities to immediately deploy traffic personnel at the location to regulate the movement and ensure public safety until a permanent solution is implemented. He emphasised that swift action on this matter would not only ease congestion but also prevent accidents that could otherwise be avoided.
Calling the situation a major public safety concern, the club stated that if their demand is met, it would be a great relief for the people of the area. They expressed hope that the authorities would recognise the urgency of the matter and take corrective measures without further delay.
