The Sultanpur Lodhi police have registered a criminal case involving an alleged cheating and breach of trust amounting to Rs 5.51 lakh. The case was initiated following a complaint submitted by Jasvir Kaur, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Sultanpur Lodhi, who accused a local resident of duping her family on the pretext of sending her son abroad.
SSP Gaurav Toora told that the complainant alleged that the accused, Karandeer, a resident of Mohalla Diwana, Sultanpur Lodhi, had assured her that he would facilitate the travel of her son, Gurvinder Singh, to Moscow, Russia. Lured by promises of overseas employment opportunities and a secure future, the family reportedly paid a total sum of Rs 5,51,200 to the accused.
However, the promised travel arrangements never materialised. When repeated follow-ups allegedly yielded no tangible results, the complainant approached the police.
Cops examined the allegations and recorded statements. The inquiry report reportedly substantiated the claims that the accused had collected the money under the pretext of arranging foreign travel but failed to fulfil the commitment, thereby causing financial loss to the complainant’s family.
Following the inquiry, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Police Station Sultanpur Lodhi under Sections 420 (Cheating) and 406 (Criminal Breach of Trust) of the Indian Penal Code. Police officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to ascertain additional details, including the possibility of other victims and the recovery of the defrauded amount.
