District Magistrate Komal Mittal, using the powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita (BNSS) 2023, has banned the carrying of any type of arms/weapons, explosives, kirpans, kirchas, spears, knives etc in the light of panchayat elections to be held in Punjab. The step has been taken to main law and order and peace in the district.

The order reads that any such weapon which can be used to disturb peace and tranquility is strictly prohibited within the limits of rural areas. The order will not be applicable to Army personnel, paramilitary forces, police personnel, bank security guards, factory security guards, petrol pump owners, money exchange owners, jewellery shop owners, sports persons (those shooters who were members of the National Rifle Association and participating in any event). The order will remain in force till October 16.
