SAD issues show-cause notice to councillor for defying party directives
The Halqa in-charge of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), Ranjit Singh Khurana, has issued a show-cause notice to councillor Jaswinder Kaur and her husband, Baljinder Singh Thekedar (former councillor), for allegedly defying party directives during the mayoral elections of Phagwara Municipal Corporation.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, Khurana said during the first meeting of the newly elected municipal body on February 1, councillor Jaswinder Kaur extended support to Congress candidates for the positions of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, in violation of the party’s official stance.
Khurana said that disciplinary action could be taken if a satisfactory response is not received within 10 days.
“Baljinder Singh Thekedar has been a senior leader of the Akali Dal and was elected as a councillor in 2015 on the party’s symbol. He has always been given due respect by the party. In the recent municipal elections, the party fielded his wife, Jaswinder Kaur, as the candidate from Ward No. 37, where she emerged victorious with the efforts of dedicated Akali workers. However, her actions during the mayoral elections have come as a serious breach of party discipline,” Khurana stated.
The show-cause notice demands an explanation from both leaders for their actions. Khurana warned that if they fail to respond within the stipulated time period, the high command will take disciplinary action against them for anti-party activities.
