A meeting by Madhvi Sharma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Phagwara, was convened on Friday as part of a community outreach initiative aimed at strengthening coordination between the police and rural residents. The joint “Sampark” meeting brought together representatives from 10 villages to deliberate on key law-and-order concerns and seek community cooperation in tackling crime.
During the interaction, SP Madhvi Sharma discussed the ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” and called for collective vigilance against drug abuse and trafficking. She also addressed concerns relating to gang activity, incidents of snatching and theft and emphasised the need for timely reporting of suspicious movements in villages.
A significant portion of the meeting focused on the installation and effective connectivity of CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of villages to enhance surveillance and improve response time in criminal cases. The SP encouraged village panchayat members and residents to ensure that cameras are functional and integrated with local monitoring systems wherever possible.
Feedback regarding the functioning of the local police was also sought during the session. SP Sharma assured participants that constructive suggestions would be taken seriously and necessary improvements would be implemented to ensure transparent and people-friendly policing.
Villages that participated in the meeting included Nasirabad, Panshta, Mehtiana, Naroor, Maiopatti and Dandian, among others.
Reiterating her commitment to accessible policing, SP Madhvi Sharma announced that she will remain available for the public in her office daily from 10.30 am to 11.30 am to hear and resolve the problems and complaints of citizens. She stated that members of the public can approach her directly during this hour without hesitation. In case of any unavoidable absence, information regarding her availability will be shared through the official social media handle of the SP Phagwara office.
