Sandhu takes charge as Phagwara varsity VC

Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu has taken over the charge of Vice-Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU), bringing with him 35 years of remarkable experience. His career is marked by contributions to sports medicine, research and policy-making, along with a strong track record in academia and leadership.

Sandhu has held several key leadership roles, including secretary of the UGC. During his tenure at the UGC, he also served as the Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and contributed to the governing bodies of many national and international educational organisations such as the Consortium for Educational Communication, Inter-University Accelerator Centre and UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research. Presently, he is serving as adviser (higher education) to Punjab Governor.

Sandhu shared, “My focus will be on expanding LPU’s global presence, boosting research capabilities and ensuring an enriching and transformative educational experience for all students.” He is a highly accomplished academician and a renowned expert in the field of orthopedics and sports medicine. He is a gold medalist graduate in medicine from Government Medical College, Amritsar. Sandhu further pursued his postgraduate studies in sports medicine at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, where he was recognised as the university topper. With around 250 publications in national and international journals, his research contributions are widely recognised in the academic community.
