Jalandhar, August 30

The Jalandhar Rural police have arrested six individuals involved in drug trafficking and multiple robbery cases. The police have seized 1.05 kg of hashish from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Rahul, alias Mangi, a resident of Mohalla Chaudharia, Phillaur, Anil Paswan from Bihar and currently residing in Phillaur, Rekha, resident of Jagatpur Panjdhera, Phillaur, Vikas, alias Bobby, a resident of Mohalla Ravidaspura, Phillaur, Gourav Kumar, alias Bhakta, resident of Mohalla Bhandera, Phillaur, and Sunita, resident of Mohalla Santokhpura, Phillaur.

SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said the operation had been conducted under the supervision of DSP, Phillaur, Swaran Singh Bal. Led by Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO of Phillaur Police Station, a special check-point was set up where the accused were apprehended with a significant quantity of hashish, along with a stolen motorcycle that had been taken away from the vicinity of Shiv Mandir, GT Road, Phillaur. The accused would be produced in the local court, the SSP said.

In a separate operation, the police team has also arrested three members of a gang who had reportedly been carrying out robberies in the area. The police recovered 14 stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle from the gang members. These individuals had been terrorising residents across Phillaur, Guraya and Bilga.

SSP Khakh elaborated, “The arrests of these criminals have significantly reduced the instances of robbery in the region.” In this regard, an FIR had been lodged on August 28 under Section 20C of the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station, on August 19 and August 13 at Phillaur Police Station. They will be produced in the local court and their remand will be taken to further investigate the cases and to check their forward and backward links.
