Smuggler held with 35 gm heroin

The Kapurthala police arrested a drug smuggler and recovered heroin during routine patrolling in the Fattudhinga area. According to police sources, a team led by ASI Dilbagh Singh noticed a youth behaving suspiciously who, on spotting the patrol party, became nervous and tried to flee. During the attempt, he allegedly threw a transparent packet from the lower pocket of his trousers.

The police team immediately overpowered the suspect with the help of accompanying personnel. On checking the discarded packet, 35 gm of heroin was recovered. The accused was identified as Pawan Kumar, son of Mukha Ram, a resident of Khanpur village under the police station.

Following the recovery, the accused was arrested and a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered at the police station concerned. The contraband was seized as per due legal procedure.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the narcotics and to ascertain whether the accused has links with a wider drug trafficking network. They reiterated their commitment to curbing the drug menace and appealed to the public to share information related to illegal drug activities.
