Gone are the days when the festival of Karva Chauth was confined to bearing hunger pangs or performing age-old rituals at home. With various special events being organised in the city to mark the day, women of today are all set to fast with patience while performing traditional ceremonies in their own swag with their friends on October 17.

Several clubs and hotels in the city have made arrangements for exciting activities, including games, dances and fashion shows, which will keep women high on energy.

Talking to this correspondent Shaina Kochar and Rashmi Aggarwal, organisers of ‘Mrs Royal Karva Chauth’ event said it would be the first-of-its-kind event in the city wherein a beauty contest would held, in which lovely ladies would walk the ramp for the title of ‘Mrs Karva Chauth’.

They said they there would be bumper prizes, lucky draws and gifts for every participant. “The event is already a houseful as more than 200 entry passes have been sold by now. We are sure that these glamorous activities will help distract the hunger pangs and women will have a fun-filled afternoon,” they said.

Meanwhile, at many venues pre-Karva Chauth celebrations, mehndi nights are also being organised. Not just this, saloons, parlours, hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars in the city have announced special offers, discount coupons, special menus and live music.

“It’s better to be a part of some event as the day passes quite easily. Also, we get to spend quality time together,” shared Nitika Kapoor, adding that she, along with her husband, will enjoy the day at a local club where special Karva Chauth couple event is being organised.

Markets abuzz with women shoppers

Routes to many markets were diverted on Saturday due to celebrations taking place in various areas to mark ‘Valmiki Jayanti’. Despite that, markets were seen in a festive mood.

Residents have been thronging markets in a large number. Purchasing clothes, bangles, dry fruits and sweets and getting henna applied on their hands, women were seen busy preparing for the special day.
