State sub-junior hockey championship begins today

The Punjab State Hockey Championship for sub-junior boys and girls will be held from March 14 to March 17 at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar. The championship is being organised by Hockey Punjab with the support of RoundGlass Sports.

Providing details about the event, Hockey Punjab president Nitin Kohli and general secretary Amrik Singh Powar said that players under the age of 17 (born after January 1, 2010) will be eligible to participate in the tournament.

Teams from various districts across Punjab will compete in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. All matches in the championship will be played on a knock-out basis. Accredited umpires and technical officials from Hockey India will officiate the matches to ensure the smooth conduct of the tournament. The final matches of the championship are scheduled to be played on March 17.

Officials added that the tournament will also serve as a selection platform for the Punjab sub-junior teams, which will represent the state in the upcoming Hockey India Sub-Junior National Hockey Championship starting from April 1.
