In an initiative of SSP Kapurthala and Lovely Professional University, an interaction programme between students and cops was organised on the LPU campus under “Sampark Abhiyan” to create awareness about the growing menace of drugs and to encourage youth participation in building a drug-free society.
The interactive session was led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala, Gaurav Toora, who underscored the urgent need for awareness, vigilance, and collective responsibility among the younger generation. He emphasised that the fight against drugs cannot be won through enforcement alone but requires active cooperation from educational institutions, families, and students themselves.
During the session, the officers spoke candidly about the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. They elaborated on how substance abuse not only destroys individual health and careers but also weakens families and society at large. Stressing preventive education, they highlighted that early awareness, timely intervention and positive peer influence are critical in protecting youth from falling prey to addiction.
Students actively engaged with the officials by raising questions related to prevention strategies, reporting mechanisms, cyber safety concerns, community policing initiatives and the support systems available for those seeking help.
