Students attend awareness camp on stubble management at Mukandpur

The event was aimed at educating students about effective in-field management of crop residue and discourage the practice of stubble burning so they could further spread awareness among the farmers around them.

Led by Dr Pradeep Kumar, Additional Director (Training), the KVK experts informed students about the harmful effects of stubble burning. They explained how the practice damages the environment, reduces soil fertility, harms beneficial insects and adversely affects human health.

Kumar emphasised that students could play a crucial role in spreading awareness among their families and communities to prevent pollution. He also encouraged them to take active responsibility in environmental conservation efforts.

School Principal Parmjeet Kaur highlighted the importance of understanding the seriousness of crop residue management.

Dr Jaswinder Kumar, Assistant Professor (Crop Science), spoke about the modern machinery used for stubble management, such as baler machines, super seeders, smart seeders and surface seeders. Dr Rajinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Home Science), discussed various KVK activities related to residue management, while Renu Bala, Demonstrator (Home Science), spoke about the center’s services for farmers.

To engage schoolchildren, speech, essay-writing, and painting competitions were also held on the theme of harmful effects of stubble burning.

The students also held a rally to spread the message of environmental protection in the community.

Surinder Singh, president of the PTA Association, thanked the experts and teachers Balwinder Singh and Rajwinder Singh for their support. He asserted that such programmes should be regularly organised for students in the future.
