Jalandhar, February 15

As many as 40 SC students from HMV College on Friday staged a protest and submitted a memorandum to the administration seeking its intervention on the issue of the fee demanded by the college authorities.

In a signed memorandum, the students said they hailed from a poor background and had taken admission relying on the Centre’s Post -Matric Scholarship Scheme.

“We cannot pay the college fee on our own. Initially, we were told that we only need to deposit the university fee which we had paid. But now at the start of every semester, we are being coerced to deposit the college fee too. We are not capable of it,” the students said.

At the time of last semester examination, students were denied roll numbers without payment of the fee. SAD MLA Pawan Tinu had got financial aid arranged for the students and got their fee deposited just a day ahead of the university examinations.

The authorities have been maintaining that the government has dues worth crores pending towards colleges which are not being cleared.
