The move of the Ministry of Human Resource Development to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains) and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), two national- level engineering and medical entrance examinations twice a year from 2019 by a newly-formed National Testing Agency (NTA) has been hailed by students and experts in the city.

They say the decision will be beneficial for students as they  get a second chance for improvement.

Earlier, the CBSE had been conducting the exam. Now, the NTA will conduct the exam in February and May, and JEE (Mains) in January and April.

The students can appear for the test, which is spread over five days, as per their convenience as they have the option to choose the date. The government plans to bring in transparency in the system of examination through this step. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar had made the announcement a few days ago and tweeted for the same.

Dr Suresh Sharma, principal, CT Public School, said the recent announcement by the NTA would prove beneficial for the aspirants as they would get two chances of appearing in   JEE, NEET and NET.

Kamaljot Kaur, a teacher of a private institute, said, “This will double the stress on children. Making things easy for children is not going to help them. This will be of no benefit in the long run.”

Charanpreet Singh, a Class XII student, said, “I am happy with the decision as it will now give every student a chance to crack the exam for the second time in the same year.”
