A contingent of teachers from Hoshiarpur set out for Sangrur to participate in the “March against broken promises” to the residence of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
The delegation was led by Mukesh Gujarati, state joint secretary of the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), district president Sukhdev Dansiwal, Inder Sukhdeep Singh Odha, convener of Doaba Zone, Old Pensioners’ Front Punjab (PPPF), joint secretary Praveen Sherpur and meet pradhan Rajinder Hejman, among other leaders.
The leaders stated that the Punjab government had promised teachers during the legislative assembly session that they would vote against the TET-related bills and file a review petition in the Supreme Court, but no action has been taken so far. Before the elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had assured employees and pensioners in Punjab that allowances for grant workers would be increased, temporary employees would be made permanent, the Sixth Punjab Pay Commission would favour employees and pensioners, the old pension scheme would be restored and 37 types of allowances, including rural, travel and border area allowances, as well as 4-9-14 years benefits, should be reinstated. None of these promises have been fulfilled yet.
The leaders warned that if the government does not address the demands of the employees promptly, it will face massive employee protests.
The Hoshiarpur contingent included Manjit Singh Baba, Resham Singh Dhugga, Varinder Saini, Baljinder Sahota, Ashni Kumar Basi Daulat Khan, Balbir Singh Dhami, Pradeep Guru, Ramesh Malkowal, Jagdeep Singh, Madam Khushvinder, Madam Inderjit Kaur, Karanail Singh Khanpur, Daljit Singh Mahilpur, Harish Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Ramesh Bagga and Dinesh Kumar, among others.
