JALANDHAR: The Tehbazari Department, which has given as many as 243 units on rent under the Municipal Corporation, is yet to recover over Rs 11 crore as rent from them.

The Tehbazari Department, which has given as many as 243 units on rent under the Municipal Corporation, is yet to recover over Rs 11 crore as rent from them.

Of these, a majority are shops and rest are petrol pumps, workshops and milk bars. The department also sends notices to the units to pay rent from time to time.

As per information, there are some defaulters among these units which have not paid rent to the department for the past 20 years.

The department takes monthly rent from these units. Officials said notices were being sent to the units and the rent was sent in instalments.

Notably, the department has also put up cases against 31 defaulter units of the 243, which are pending in the court of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). An amount of over Rs 3 crore is pending with the defaulter units.

“We won some cases and had recovered rent from them but recovery of big amount is still pending,” the officials had earlier said.

If recovered, the money will help in several development works of the city.

Officials associated with the Tehbazari Department said checking was conducted on a regular basis and defaulters were dealt accordingly.
