Three challaned for noise pollution

JALANDHAR: In a bid to check noise pollution by taking action against vehicles using pressure horns, a joint team of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and the traffic police, Jalandhar, challaned a heavy vehicle and two Royal Enfield motorcycles for using multi-tone horns and cracker-sound emitting silencer.

In a bid to check noise pollution by taking action against vehicles using pressure horns, a joint team of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and the traffic police, Jalandhar, challaned a heavy vehicle and two Royal Enfield motorcycles for using multi-tone horns and cracker-sound emitting silencer.

A team comprising PPCB Junior Environmental Engineer (JEE) Varun Kumar, along with a team of the traffic police, led by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), Traffic Police, Harpreet Singh, checked 20 heavy motor vehicles and seven motorcycles at the Guru Ravidass Chowk. During checking, challans were issued to two motrocycles and a heavy vehicle for violating the noise pollution norms.

A spokesperson for the department said the violators would also be issued show-cause notices under Section 31-A of the Air Act, 1981. — TNS
