Kapurthala, March 4

The three-day Kapurthala Heritage Festival organised by Punjab’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department in association with District Administration ended on a high note on late Sunday evening here at the Sainik School, Kapurthala. A large number of people joined the festival besides enjoying cultural, folk and heritage related performances as well as visiting stalls to buy exhibited goods and books.

Notably, while the erstwhile Kapurthala Heritage Festival which used to be held many years ago on the Sainik School premises celebrated the classical, folk and Sufi heritage of the country, its closure had been a dampener for music lovers. The new edition of the Kapurthala Heritage Festival, started this year, to revive the lost musical and cultural heritage of the region, gives hope for the erstwhile royal city where the royal courts once played patrons to choicest artists and msuicians.

At the festival on Sunday, famed Punjabi folk singer Manmohan Waris entertained the large audience with his popular folk songs while the famous qawwal Karamat Faqir made the event colourful with his sufi singing. The concluding day witnessed several cultural and folk events including bhangra, giddha, mimicry, mimes, group dances, poetry recitation throwing a light on Punjab’s rich cultural and heritage past.
