In two separate operations under the NDPS Act, police teams arrested three persons and seized heroin along with a motorcycle, intensifying the ongoing crackdown against narcotics trafficking in the region.
In the first case, a police party were on patrol duty near Rajapur turn when they spotted two young men standing by the roadside. Upon noticing the police, the suspects attempted to start their motorcycle and turn back in an apparent bid to escape. Acting swiftly, the police team intercepted and detained them on suspicion.
During the scuffle, the pillion rider allegedly pulled out a heavy transparent polythene packet from his lower garment and threw it towards the roadside. The suspects were identified as Sarbjit Singh alias Babbi, and Varinder Singh alias Babbu, both residents of Latianwal under Sultanpur Lodhi police station.
Upon checking the discarded packet, police recovered 45 grams of heroin. The motorcycle being used by the accused was also seized. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and both accused have been formally arrested. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the seized contraband.
In a separate incident, a police party during a search operation in connection with suspicious activities in the Phagwara area. While proceeding from Urban Estate towards Dosanjh Road, the team noticed a young man approaching from the opposite side near Sanjeev Kumar Welding Works. On seeing the police, he reportedly became nervous, turned back abruptly and threw a black-coloured packet into roadside grass.
The police apprehended the suspect, who was identified as Harpreet Singh alias Happy, a resident of Sarhala Ranuan under Behram police station in Nawanshahr district. Upon questioning, he admitted that the discarded packet contained heroin. A search of the packet led to the recovery of approximately 5 grams of heroin.
A separate case has been registered against Harpreet Singh under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and he has been taken into custody. Police officials confirmed that further investigation is in progress to identify possible links to larger drug supply chains operating in the region.
