Thrift book fair at Jalandhar's Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall draws bibliophiles in droves

The much-awaited thrift book fair has begun at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall, drawing bibliophiles from across the city. The fair, which started on August 5, will continue until August 10, offering readers an opportunity to explore an extensive collection of books available at highly discounted prices.

Visitors were seen browsing through various sections of the hall on Friday. Many customers stood patiently selecting their favourite titles, while others explored different corners dedicated to a wide range of genres and age groups. Families, students and young readers were among those making purchases.

The fair features a collection of over five lakh books in English, Hindi and Punjabi, with prices starting at as low as Rs 19 and discounts going up to 90 per cent on selected titles.

Readers can find books by renowned authors such as RK Narayan, Sudha Murty and Devdutt Pattanaik, besides works by Swami Vivekananda, APJ Abdul Kalam and Roald Dahl. Popular titles, including ‘Animal Farm’ and the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ series, are also available. In addition, the fair offers an impressive selection of books for children, along with novels, self-help books, biographies, business titles, history, spirituality, competitive exam guides, classics and much more.

The organisers said the fair aims to encourage the reading habit by making quality books affordable and accessible to people of all age groups. The exhibition remains open daily from 10 am to 10 pm and visitors are expected to continue coming to the venue over the weekend before the fair concludes on Monday.
