Police Commemoration Day was observed in Jalandhar where Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora addressed the gathering and recalled the stellar role of the Punjab Police in preserving the hard-earned peace of the state, besides safeguarding the unity and integrity of the country.

He said it was a matter of pride for the Punjab Police that from 1981 to 2017, 2,719 police officers/officials of the state police had sacrificed their lives for maintaining peace and integrity of the country.

Arora said the supreme sacrifice of these martyrs would always inspire the younger generation of police officials to sacrifice their lives at the altar of the motherland.

The DGP also hailed the decision of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to restore the special family pension of the officers martyred during operations against the terrorism.

He said their families would get the full pension, along with the facility of a red card.

Arora said the Punjab Police would always remain indebted to its illustrious heroes who brought laurels to the police force through their gallantry deeds. Later, the DGP paid floral tributes to the martyrs.
