Two children among three dead in Kapurthala roof collapse incidents

JALANDHAR: Three people died in two mishaps in Kapurthala due to the incessant rains for the past two days.

Three people died in two mishaps in Kapurthala due to the incessant rains for the past two days. Two children died after the roof of a house fall on a family sleeping at their home in the Mohalla Mehtabgarh. Simran (7) and Hari (4) lost their lives in the accident.

Children of a rickshaw puller, Inderjit, who along with his family, was sleeping in his home, when the roof collapsed in the wee hours today. Five members of the family were injured.

The injured were admitted to the Local Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, on the Subhanpur Road in Kapurthala, a youth died at Boota village when the roof of his house fall on him.

Four get injuries

Phagwara: Four persons sustained injuries in three separate incidents of roof collapse at Bhanoki, Ranipur and Bhagatpura villages, in Phagwara, following continuous rainfall since Saturday.

Two minor boys Jeyy and Azad were injured when the roof of the house suddenly collapsed in nearby Bhanoki village. Inderjit Kaur, mother of the injured said the condition of her sons were stable at the Civil Hospital.

In the second incident, Jatinder Kaur and Bahadur Singh were injured when the roof of their room suddenly collapsed at Ranipur village.

Former Minister Joginder Singh Maan and Tehsildar, Phagwara, Harkamal Singh Randhawa, rushed to the spot and assured the families adequate compensation.

In the third incident, family members of Krishan Dev escaped unhurt when the roof of their kitchen collapsed during rain in Bhagatpura village.

Councillor Sarabjit Kaur and Tehsildar Harkamal Singh assured help to the family.

Roofs of kutcha houses collapse

Hoshiarpur: After three days of incessant rainfall, roofs of two kutcha houses collapsed in Mehndiwani villages.

Numberdar Dilbagh Singh has appealed to the district administration to make temporary arrangements for residents of the houses who were rendered homeless and get their houses repaired.

Roofs of houses of Raj Kumar and Pawan Kumar collapsed this morning. While villagers provided shelter to Pawan, Raj continues to stay in his temporary dwelling where tarpaulin sheet has replaced the roof.

Dilbagh said he had taken the two men to government offices a number of times for construction of a permanent dwelling under the Indira Awaas Yojna but to no avail.

Three more incidents reported in Nawanshahr

Nawanshahr: A day after two deaths that occurred due to roof collapse in Nawanshahr, three more incidents of collapsing of roofs of the houses due to rains were reported on Monday.

As per reports, three persons of Kariam village sustained injuries in the mishap.

Compensation for father-son duo

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Naib Tehsildar and Assistant Labour Commissioner to take action to ensure adequate compensation for the father and son who had died after collapsing of the roof of their house in Nawanshahr on Saturday.

He said if it was not possible to provide compensation under the “Employment Compensation Act-1923”, then the case would be considered under the State Disaster Response Fund.
