SSP Tushar Gupta informed the media that an intensified campaign is underway against criminals in the district. During this drive, the district police apprehended two suspects on November 29.
According to the SSP, Atinder Pal Singh reported to Sub-Inspector Bikram Singh, SHO, Balachaur, that two armed men had scaled the boundary wall of his house and forced entry. The intruders were allegedly demanding that Gurmeet Singh be brought outside, threatening to kill him and the family, if their demand was not met.
Hearing the family’s cries for help, neighbours gathered and managed to overpower the two assailants. Acting swiftly, SI Bikram Singh reached the spot, took both suspects into custody and registered an FIR.
The SSP stated that during preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that they had been sent by their associate Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Khadoor Sahib, lodged in Ferozepur jail. Kuldeep had allegedly hired them to eliminate Gurmeet in exchange for Rs 3 lakh, of which Rs 50,000 had already been paid, with the remaining amount to be delivered after the crime.
The accused were produced before the court and had been remanded for two days of police custody for further interrogation.
