A resident of Urban Estate Phase I, Suresh Malik, has raised persistent concerns over sewerage problems in the locality, alleging prolonged inaction by the Municipal Corporation (MC) and district authorities.
Malik claimed that during last year’s torrential rains, rainwater mixed with sewage entered his house, causing damage to both movable and immovable property. He alleged that no proper underground drainage pipelines have been laid in the area and that the issue has remained unresolved for a long time.
He further stated that he has approached multiple authorities regarding the matter. “I visited the Sarkar Tuhade Dwar grievance redressal camp and also submitted a written complaint to the State Commission. Earlier too, I had submitted memorandums to various officials highlighting that silt and mud clog the rainwater gullies. During heavy downpours, the situation worsens significantly,” Malik said.
Emphasising the need for immediate intervention, he added, “The sewerage system requires thorough cleaning with a suction pump machine. I want the problem resolved permanently, as it is very problematic for us.”
Responding to the allegations, Junior Engineer (JE) of the Municipal Corporation, Shubham, said that the sewerage issue had recently been addressed. “The problem has been resolved. Now, the sewer will also be cleared with a super suction machine, and the procedure to get it done is on,” he said.
Residents in the area, however, continue to seek a long-term solution to prevent recurrence of the problem, particularly during the monsoon season.
