Vice-captain Hardik Singh is fifth in family to win laurels in hockey

JALANDHAR: After his father and international hockey player Varinderpreet Singh, paternal uncle Jugraj Singh, aunt and golden girl Rajbir Kaur and her Olympian husband Gurmail Singh brought laurels to the city in hockey, Hardik Singh from the next generation, too, has shined in the under-18 Asia Cup Hockey Tournament winning a gold, yesterday.

After his father and international hockey player Varinderpreet Singh, paternal uncle Jugraj Singh, aunt and golden girl Rajbir Kaur and her Olympian husband Gurmail Singh brought laurels to the city in hockey, Hardik Singh from the next generation, too, has shined in the under-18 Asia Cup Hockey Tournament winning a gold, yesterday.

A plus two student of Sain Dass School, Hardik’s father is posted as a DSP in Gurdaspur. The family that resides at Khursopur village here is super excited. His aunt, Rajbir, says, “There could not have been a happier moment as our next generation is now following our league. Hardik is outstanding as he is not just the vice-captain but has also been declared Man of the Match yesterday.” Hardik was selected in the Indian team in June this year. The family is now waiting for him to come back.
