Hoshiarpur, February 28
A 43-year-old waiter died late last night after falling from an auto-rickshaw that was hit by a tipper near the Bist Doab Canal Bridge at Kot Fatuhi.
According to information received, around 12.30 am, an auto-rickshaw (PB-08-CX-4846) carrying waiters was returning from a wedding function in village Nadalo.
When the auto reached the Churastewala Bridge near the Kot Fatuhi canal, a sand-laden tipper (PB-07-CA-8007), driven by Amrik Singh Meeka of Chak Narial and heading towards Bahiram, allegedly collided with the auto-rickshaw.
One of the passengers, identified as Gyan Prasad Gaire (43), son of Neemanand Gaire, originally from Arghakhanchi district in Nepal and currently residing in Jalandhar, fell onto the road and was run over by the tipper, resulting in his death on the spot. Police team, shifted the body to the mortuary of Civil Hospital Garhshankar. Further investigation is underway. — OC
