Wave of creativity emanates as students use their brushes

JALANDHAR: A wave of creativity was seen today when more than 350 students showcased their painting skills during the Inter- School Painting Competition held at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi.

A wave of creativity was seen today when more than 350 students showcased their painting skills during the Inter- School Painting Competition held at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi. The event was organised by The Tribune and was powered by Chitkara University.

The theme of the event was ‘Festivals’. The students showcased artistic skills by painting their ideas on the sheets. The judges for the event were Ajit Pal, Assistant Prof from Khalsa College and Head of the department of fine arts Yogeshwar Hans from KMV College. The judges were welcomed by the principal of the school Arti Shorry Bhatt.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar was the chief guest on the occasion. Before starting of the event, Kiran Kurwade, the director, office of strategic initiatives of Chitkara University apprised the young painters of three Cs,—Curiosity, Creativity and Compassion.

He said: “Those associated with the art must spread positivity by choosing to draw positive and constructive things and must always stay away from giving out negativity.”

As many as 21 schools participated in the event. Diwali, Eid, Christmas Janmashtami, Dussehra, as the students painted these festivals. They showed that there should not be discrimination on the basis of culture and faith. One of the students also wrote a message in his painting, ‘All are equal’. In the painting, he had drawn people belonging to different religion.

Interestingly, several students drew painting on the Independence Day and Republic Day too. One of the students from Gurukul School Jasmine Kaur said this was the day when the nation got independence, so it must be celebrated as a festival.

Gurjot, Harkirat, Japmeet, Anmolpreet Kaur, Maninder, Gurdeep Singh and Piyush are some of the students who painted various messages and flag depicting the Independence Day.

Participants speak

Harshita Khanna (10) had used her brushes to make a beautiful painting on Holi festival. She said: “ I have also been practicing sketching for long. I can make sketches of people too. I just need a little time to improve my skills.”

Sant Kaur, (13) said as she loved the Holi festival. “I painted all my memories of playing holi on the sheet. I hope it came out well,” she said adding that she personally liked using crayons colours more.

Kanika Thakur (11) chose to draw the bond of a brother and sister. “I always wait for the festival. It depicts a strong bond between siblings. I love to draw and it’s my passion.”

Winners speak:

First prize: Manya Beri of Innocent Hearts School, (Painting: Janmashtmi).

”I had an exam today but I also did not want to miss this opportunity to be here. So, the moment I finished the exam, I came here. I am too glad that such event happened which has given me boost. Painting is my passion.” she said.

Second prize: Ruhan Arora, Mayor World School, (Painting: Raksha Bandhan):

”I love to paint because one can fill colours on a blank sheet and give it a beautiful look. An artist has a power to add brightness in life, which is why painting is something I have always enjoyed. I have learnt painting from my teachers and also watch YouTube videos to learn more,” she said.

Third prize: Arshiya of Innocent Hearts School (Painting: Diwali)

She said I think such events should keep on happening as it instills an immense amount of confidence and motivation in us. I am too elated today that I have received this prize.
