Wheat procurement off to smooth start in Kapurthala

With the aim of procuring 3.38 lakh MT of wheat during the current season, procurement has been started in the district. Till yesterday, 603.10 MT of wheat was procured by the state procurement agencies.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said that the target has been fixed at 3.38 lakh MT of wheat and 42 grain markets and some temporary mandis have been set up to ensure a smooth procurement season.

He said the daily arrival of wheat was around 500 MT, which will be increased in the coming days. He also said for hassle-free procurement, ADC (General) Navneet Kaur Bal has been appointed supervisory officer for Bholath sub-division and ADC (General) Dr Akshita Gupta for Phagwara, followed by ADC (Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa for Sultanpur Lodhi and Kapurthala. Besides, all SDMs have been appointed as nodal officer for their respective sub-divisions and have been asked to visit mandis daily.
