With 785 cops on duty, 80 nakas in place, Phagwara DIG oversees night security drive

In a concerted effort to reinforce public safety and maintain heightened vigilance, the police conducted a large-scale night domination exercise across Jalandhar Range, including Phagwara, after midnight under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Naveen Singla.

The exercise was aimed at reviewing the prevailing security situation, strengthening area security and ensuring a visible police presence in vulnerable locations.

Talking to The Tribune in Phagwara, DIG Singla said a total of 785 police personnel participated in the operation, including 3 SSPs, 29 gazetted officers, 46 Inspectors/Station House Officers (SHOs) and 516 executive police officers.

Police teams established 80 check-points (nakas) and deployed 46 patrolling units across the range to monitor movement, deter criminal activity and enhance night-time security.

DIG Singla said during the operation, the police checked 742 suspected persons and rounded up 32 individuals for verification in accordance with legal procedures. A total of 1,119 vehicles were inspected, while four vehicles were impounded for violations. Traffic enforcement teams issued 113 challans and the police also inspected 118 buildings as part of the comprehensive review. Additionally, nine preventive actions were taken during the checking process to maintain law and order.

The drive included nakabandi operations across the city, a special checking drive at Law Gate, and shifting checkpoints at strategic locations to keep suspicious activities under surveillance. PCR teams were briefed to ensure a prompt and coordinated response for the security of the town during night hours, while targeted checking was also carried out in identified drug hotspot areas.

SP Madhvi Sharma said the Phagwara operation resulted in 20 traffic challans, the impounding of five vehicles and preventive action against five suspected persons. The police also took strict action against violations such as black window films, triple riding, and vehicles being operated without registration number plates.

DIG Singla stated that the exercise successfully enhanced vigilance across the region and reinforced public confidence in the police force. He added that such coordinated security operations were essential for deterring criminal activities, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and maintaining a safe environment for residents during night hours.
