Woman jumps into Kali Bein with two sons in Kapurthala; children drown

A woman allegedly attempted suicide by jumping into the Kali Bein along with her two minor sons in Kapurthala district’s sub-division Sultanpur Lodhi on Wednesday. While the mother was rescued alive, both children drowned.

Simran Kaur, wife of Bharpoor Singh and a resident of Adalat Chak village, was reportedly under stress. She took her two sons — Veer Pratap Singh (6) and Gur Pratap Singh (3) — to the riverside and jumped into the water. She had picked up one of the children from school shortly before heading to the river.

Eyewitnesses at the scene acted swiftly and managed to pull the woman out of the water. However, despite immediate efforts, the two children could not be saved and lost their lives.

Upon receiving information, the Sultanpur Lodhi police reached the spot, took custody of the bodies, and shifted them to the Civil Hospital mortuary for further procedures.

Investigating officer ASI Baldev Singh said a probe had been initiated. A case has ben registered and further investigation is under way.
