It was after many years that ‘Kashmir ki Kali’ Sharmila Tagore visited the Kashmir valley recently. The visit gave her a chance to remember the 1960s and 70s when she had been frequenting the Valley for shooting a series of films. She, along with several other stars of Bollywood, acted in many films that made memorable hits for their scenic backgrounds. Sharmila returned home with new experiences from Kashmir, where cinema halls have ceased to exist. Ehsan Fazili

BJP’s ‘matrimonial court’

The way the disciplinary committee of the BJP has summoned party legislator Gagan Bhagat and his wife Monika Sharma, it appears that the party panel, which was constituted only to ensure discipline among party cadre, has turned into a matrimonial court. The husband and wife were summoned separately by the panel to listen to their opinions after some pictures of Bhagat went viral on social media. While Monika alleged that her husband has an extramarital affair, Bhagat smelt a conspiracy in the whole episode. The panel had summoned both of them to solve the issue. Dinesh Manhotra

Bhim Singh offers Sharif help

Prof Bhim Singh, former MLC and founder of J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP), has always remained in limelight for his international contacts with dictators and revolutionaries. An advocate, politician and globetrotter, Prof Singh has now offered legal aid to beleaguered former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, facing who is facing corruption charges. Offer may not be accepted, but for decades, Prof Singh’s name was associated with legal teams of several international political figures, including late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain and former Yugoslavian president Slobodan Milosevic. Interestingly, Saddam Hussain had named Prof Singh to plead his case before the military court in Bagdad. In both cases, the request was declined. Sumit Hakhoo

Mehjoor’s song goes viral

Kashmir valley’s renowned poet Mehjoor’s famous song ‘Ha Gulo Tohi Ma Sa Wuchwone Yaar Meon’ is trending on the Internet nowadays. Though sung by several Valley-based singers in the past, the latest version of the song has been composed by Coke Studio Pakistan. Sung by Altaf Mir of the Muzaffarabad-based band ‘Qasamir’, the song has gone viral on Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. Besides the rustic voice of Mir, the ‘pheran’-clad members of ‘Qasamir’ group in the video seem to have caught everybody’s attention in Kashmir. M Aamir Khan
