The Academic Arrangement Teacher Association (AATA) on Monday held a strong protest rally amid huge deployment of police in Jammu and demanded revocation of government order.

Shouting slogans and conveying their resentment against the Higher Education Department order 472-HE of 2019, a large number of teachers held a protest rally in Jammu. They appealed the Lieutenant-Governor to immediately revoke this controversial order, which restrained them from performing duties continuously.

“We are 3,500 academic arrangement teachers in Jammu and Kashmir, working since a long time but the government has issued fresh order and demoted us as need-based teachers. We have been protesting for the past three months but the government is unmoved.” a teacher said.

“This order deprives us to earn our livelihood and live life with dignity. The government has time and again assured us of regularisation, but despite being promoted, we have been brought down to the level of need-based labourers.” another teacher said.

The protesters said after creation of the UT, the government had time and again assured people that they would be provided job opportunities. The protesting teachers vowed to continue their struggle till the UT Government revoked its order on terming their services as ‘need based’.
