To ensure peaceful local body elections, the authorities have sounded a high alert in the mountainous Doda and Kishtwar districts as they go to the polls on Wednesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, Rajinder Gupta said, “Special security arrangements have been made for conducting peaceful elections in Kishtwar town. We have divided the different wards and are keeping extra vigil in sensitive zones.”
Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana said, “We have made all the arrangements. The polling parties have also been dispatched. For 13 wards in Kishtwar, 53 candidates are in the fray. Of them, 16 are women. We have 11 hypersensitive words and two sensitive wards with 9,155 voters.”
In Doda, the police, CRPF and SSB contingents conducted a route march under the supervision of Doda SSP Shabir Ahmed Malik.
The route march commenced from the Police Headquarters, Doda, and covered Dessa Chowk, Bun Doda, Dak Bungalow, Tondowa Circular Road, Bharat Road, Nagri area, Sah Mohalla, Irfanabad, Nehru Chowk and Sadeeqabad.
In all, 115 candidates are in the fray for three municipal committees of Doda, Thathri and Bhaderwah.
